Who we are

Preserving Wisdom, Inspiring Generations
At The Wishing Book Company (TWBC), we believe in the power of stories to inspire, connect, and leave a lasting legacy. Our mission is to bring timeless wisdom and meaningful narratives to life through beautifully crafted publications. We specialize in collaborating with Buddhist temples to design and publish custom books that preserve sacred teachings and share them with future generations. From Dharma books to commemorative editions, we are honored to support temples in spreading the Buddha’s message of compassion and peace. Rooted in creativity, TWBC began with children’s stories that nurtured imagination and personal growth. Today, we continue to celebrate storytelling in all forms—whether it’s guiding young readers on enlightening journeys or helping communities and organizations share stories that matter. No matter your vision, we are dedicated to transforming your ideas into captivating books that inspire hearts and minds for generations to come.

Our Founding Story

It all started with 'Mummy, why can't we create our own storybook?'...
Inspired by her two daughters, Apple Sophia Lim founded The Wishing Book Company (TWBC) in 2020 to create children’s books that were fun, interactive, and heart-warming. During the challenges of the pandemic, Apple began writing stories that brought joy and imagination into her home—many of which featured creative contributions from her daughters. This journey led to the publication of their first book, "Make a Wish for a Unicorn," in late 2020. As her stories resonated beyond her family, Apple quickly became a successful children’s author with five popular picture books. Now, she is preparing to release her sixth title, "Make a Wish for a Reindeer," continuing the beloved "Make a Wish for a Book" series. TWBC’s growth took a new turn when Apple received a custom order to create a children’s book for a non-profit organization. This project sparked the realization that TWBC could expand into custom publishing for corporate and community clients. Soon, TWBC began offering commemorative books, author coaching, self-publishing packages, and print-on-demand services. Today, TWBC has further evolved to specialize in custom Buddhist publications, working closely with temples to preserve sacred teachings and inspire future generations. Through every chapter of our story, we remain committed to crafting beautiful, high-quality books with engaging stories that touch hearts and minds—creating lasting legacies for families, organizations, and spiritual communities alike.

The Life of Buddha for Beginners

This publication aims to introduce children to Lord Buddha's lifestory. Our custom publishing services brought this captivating book to life, and showcases our ability to create engaging, educational content for clients with diverse objectives.
The Life of Buddha for Beginners delves into Lord Buddha's life journey, from his royal birth to his enlightenment after years of self-discovery. The book employs simple language and vivid illustrations to convey Buddha's story to readers of all ages and its interactive narrative engages young readers with thought-provoking questions. In addition, readers can also scan the QR code found in some of the pages to explore a more detailed account of Lord Buddha's key life events online. Despite initial challenges in conceptualizing the book due to her limited knowledge of Buddha's life, Apple dedicated herself to research and referencing with key academics. Her deep understanding from scratch of the subject matter is a testament to the book's balanced narrative that appeals to both children and adults alike. The publication also represents a creative approach to engage the younger generations into religious teachings. The work on this project exemplifies our commitment in Custom Publishing to help clients achieve their goals by spreading meaningful stories through beautiful illustrations and literature.

The WBDO Handbook

The World Buddhist Dhammaduta Organisation (WBDO) is holding their first post-COVID Global Conference in Singapore on 12 May 2023 and is expecting an attendance of over 1,000 monks and devotees alike. The Organisation has commissioned our company to create a Global Conference Handbook showcasing their global mission, conferences and activities.
Our Custom Publishing services provided full value chain solutions for this first-of-its-kind Global Conference Handbook. This includes book design conceptualisation, Thai language translation, copywriting, branding as well as the full publication process, resulting in a polished and professional handbook that appeals to a wide audience. Our team expertly crafted the 120-page WBDO handbook, tackling a challenging project while focusing on accuracy and authenticity. We navigated the complexities of translating data from diverse formats and collaborated with key stakeholders and chief abbots from across the globe to gather information, perform editorial work and extend conference invitations. This detail-oriented project involved translating idiomatic Thai expressions and cultural references to ensure language consistency and accuracy. Through extensive research, we verified names, places and facts. We also curated 900 plus photos that capture WBDO's global conferences and activities and kept refining content and design amidst numerous revisions. Despite the demanding nature of the project, our commitment to our client's goals enables us to deliver a high-quality publication that raises awareness of WBDO's mission and international profile, all within schedule.

Visitor Guide

This project involved creating a complimentary visitor guide book for the Wat Ananda Metyarama Thai Buddhist Temple, the oldest Theravada Buddhist tradition temple in Singapore. The challenge was to create a guidebook that accurately reflects the temple's modernity while preserving its traditional elements, and to depict the life of the Buddha accurately in an engaging and informative manner.
Our aim was to create a top-quality resource that accurately reflected the core values and unique features of Wat Ananda Metyarama Thai Buddhist Temple, while providing an immersive and engaging experience for visitors. The challenge was to spread Buddha's teachings through storytelling and feature the mural paintings in the temple's Main Shrine. The 'Wat Ananda Metyarama Thai Buddhist Temple: Visitor Guide' is a 60-page book that features photos of 34 mural paintings, hand-painted painstakingly by two talented Thai artists over three years, currently displayed in the Temple's Main Shrine. We incorporated a museum concept and added an audio guide to the Temple's website, using text-to-speech audio to enhance the visitor experience. The final creation is a guidebook that showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Temple and provides visitors an opportunity to learn about Buddhism in a modern and engaging way.

What's Your Trading Angle

A project that holds a special place in our hearts involve the creation of a personalised book for our founder's spouse, Mr Thomas Ng, who is one of leading stockbrokers in Singapore.
Thomas has always wanted to publish a book of his learnings in his field but is unable to summon that into priority. Apple realised his aspiration by publishing a book collating his career accomplishments and his technical analysis memos for his clientele. Our team of experts, including editors, graphic and layout designers, worked tirelessly to bring this concept to life. We carefully researched and selected images that perfectly complemented the content of the book, and designed a cover with colors that matched the essence of Thomas's brand. Our attention to details extended beyond just aesthetics - we printed the book on superior quality paper to ensure its longevity and durability. The team worked tirelessly to ensure that the final product met Apple's expectations. The book was truly a labor of love and highlights our dedication to help clients achieve their branding aspirations and establish a lasting legacy through literature.

Meet Ksitigarbha

Meet Ksitigarbha is a heartfelt children’s book written by acclaimed Singaporean author Apple Sophia Lim, introducing young readers to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, the compassionate figure who vowed to help all beings overcome suffering. Through engaging storytelling and vibrant illustrations, the book beautifully blends ancient Buddhist teachings with interactive elements, creating an enlightening and enjoyable reading experience for children.
Our team at The Wishing Book Company dedicated significant time and effort to ensure that Apple's narrative and the illustrations worked seamlessly together. Two designers collaborated closely on the book’s interior to capture both the author’s and editor’s vision. We committed extra time and resources to produce a high-quality book that truly reflects the depth of Ksitigarbha’s teachings. Although the project took longer than expected, Meet Ksitigarbha was successfully released in December 2024. We are now seeking sponsors for Di Zang Lin Temple to support future print runs and distribute this inspiring book to more children.
Enjoy this heartfelt song created by Di Zang Lin Temple to celebrate the release of Meet Ksitigarbha. This special video captures the spirit of compassion and wisdom shared in the book, bringing Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva’s teachings to life through music.
